It is possible to work both during your studies (as a student assistant) and after graduation (as a doctoral student assistant) while working on your dissertation.
Please note that there are no longer any traditional 50% doctoral positions available immediately after graduation for candidates without professional experience. Doctoral candidates without at least one year of professional experience are hired either as doctoral research assistants or as rotating interns (30% TV-L plus on-call duty, equivalent to a total of TV-L E14 50%, 2-year contract; see here for more information).
